Some of the other activies that we would like to become involved in are Habitat for Humanity and KidsView. We are exploring some other fundraising options. We would like to increase our membership and we would like to see more involvment with those that are already members.
Our orthopedic workshop was held on October 26, 2002. Bert Ferris from Synthes did a great job. We all had an opportunity to do hands on with 3 different ortho fixation procedures. Lunch was provided and T-shirts were available.
Our Thanksgiving Raffle Basket was a huge success. Sharon Shaw was the winner. Thanks everyone for your contributions and hard selling efforts.
Our holiday dinner and gift exchange was held at Little Italy. We had our own private room. A good time was had by all.
Our Valentine's Day raffle was won by Dr. Lee Merritt. He had not done his valentine shopping yet.
Congress was held in Chicago this year. Judy Owens, Regina Petzold, Sharon Shaw, Edith Vickery and Donna Webb attended the weeklong conference. It is a great educational and networking experience. For those of you that have never attended, if you have the opportunity to attend, you should go.
The Awards Dinner was held on Saturday night. All of our chapter representatives attended. Black Gold of East Texas received the 2003 AORN Chapter Continuing Education Award. The chapter received this award in recognition of its efforts in presenting an educational seminar entitled, Basics of Anesthesia, What Nurses Should Know.
Pines Dining Books have been sold this Spring. All money needs to be turned into Donna Webb at the May meeting.
"Top 10 Sayings in the OR" t-shirts can still be ordered. The color of the shirts are purple. The cost is $15.00 for small-XL, $18.00 for 1X-3X.
Our last meeting will be in May. Please let the nominating committee know if you are interested in serving as an officer next year. Elections will be held at the May meeting.
The chapter would like to sponsor some fun activities this summer. Bring your ideas to the next meeting. We need more people to be involved. There are a lot of projects that we need help with.
This summer we also plan on having a work/fun night to go through all of our archives. We need to condense what we have. Judy Gabucci has graciously volunteered to put our information on computer discs. We have to sort the material first. A date will be set at the May meeting.
